As soon as they smell me whipping up a batch of their favorite Banana Peanut Butter Treats, Annie and Nikki come wagging their tails and jumping into the kitchen for a sample.
And of course like any good mom I give them a taste. Besides, they are my quality control supervisors!
Banana Peanut Butter Treats
1/2 Cup All Natural Peanut Butter
1/4 Cup Warm Water
1/2 Cup Mashed or Pureed Banana
1 Tblsp. Honey
1 Egg
1 3/4 Cups Wheat Flour
Parchment Paper
Instructions:
Mix peanut butter and warm water in a large bowl with a fork until
completely smooth. Add banana, honey and egg, mix until well blended.
Mix in 1 cup of the flour until well blended.
Then add remaining flour
1/4 cup at a time until a stiff dough forms. I find it easier to blend
in the remainder of the flour with my hands because the dough is stiff.
Chill the dough for approximately 20 minutes before rolling.
Take the dough out and flatten it between your hands as far as you can to make rolling easier. Place on a floured (sifted wheat flour) surface and roll to desired thickness, about 3/8" or so.
Then using a cookie cutter, cut out shapes and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
Note: These do not spread like a regular cookie so you can place them fairly close together.
Bake in a 300 degree oven for 30 minutes.
Tip: After I finish cooking I shut off the oven and leave the dog biscuits in the oven for a couple of hours to make sure they are completely dry and crunchy.
This way they can be stored for a long time without worrying about them spoiling.
Training Treats
Take the remaining bits and pieces of the banana peanut butter treats dough left over after cutting, and roll that out to 3/8" thickness.
Place the rolled dough onto a parchment lined cookie sheet to cut into small kibble sized pieces for training.
Using a pizza cutter, roll across the dough to cut long strips into the dough. Then go back across in the other direction cutting thru the dough to make small kibble sized pieces. Leave the entire thing on the cookie sheet.
Don't remove this from the cookie sheet. Just go ahead and place the entire slab of cut dough into a 300 degree oven for 30 minutes to cook.
Remove from oven and break apart the pieces. You can then add them to the other cooked homemade dog biscuits you made and return all to the oven for a couple of hours to finish drying.
Woof!
Enjoy your homemade
Banana Peanut Butter Treats!
